Panic disorder

With a panic disorder you suffer from sudden anxiety and panic attacks. The symptoms are both of a physical and mental nature. You might get the feeling that you are about to faint, die, go crazy or run amok. You get physical symptoms such as breathing problems, pain in the chest, cold sweats and shaking hands.

A panic attack comes on suddenly and lasts a couple of minutes. When you have recovered, you feel exhausted but no longer anxious. If you get many attacks, you might become more and more nervous about getting an attack. You can then get anxiety symptoms between the attacks and many will with time develop agoraphobia.

Panic attacks can be treated effectively with medicine and psychotherapy.
