PTSD

Morten Birket-Smith, psykiater

PTSD is an abbreviation for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder – i.e. a stress and strain reaction, which occurs after a traumatic situation.

If you have been involved in an accident or been subjected to other severe mental trauma, you may get prolonged anxiety symptoms. The anxiety symptoms get worse every time something reminds you of the events you have been subjected to. And you may re-experience the trauma in the form of thoughts, pictures or in dreams. PTSD can often be treated effectively with medicine and psychotherapy.
